With the arrival of the Season of Mischief comes the new Misunderstood Mischief Special Research story in Pokémon GO. This quest will eventually lead to players being able to catch Hoopa, or so the speculation goes. Even if that’s not the ultimate goal, there are plenty of rewards along the way, if you complete all of the tasks. But this is a very unique Special Research quest, offering new mechanics to Pokémon GO. To help, here’s all of the Misunderstood Mischief Special Research tasks and reward in Pokémon GO.
Misunderstood Mischief Tasks and Rewards
Below are all of the currently known tasks and rewards for the Misunderstood Mischief Special Research in Pokémon GO. This is the first staggered release research story, so you can only complete part of it at a time. The next section will unlock later on, so check back for updates as they hit.
Stage 1 of 16
- Make 10 Nice Throws – an Incense
- Use an Incense (or Mystery Box) – 10 Poké Balls
- Take 3 Snapshots of wild Psychic-type Pokémon – 10 Nanab Berry
Rewards: a Gothita encounter, 1,000 XP, and 500 Stardust

This was unlocked by the Hoopa’s Arrival event.
Rewards: 720 XP
Stage 3 of 16
- Make 5 Curveball Throws – 15 Poké Balls
- Catch 10 different species of Pokémon – 5 Great Balls
- Earn 5,000 Stardust – 3 Max Revives
Rewards: Hoopa encounter, 1,000 XP, and 500 Stardust

This was unlock for the Psychic Spectacular event.
Rewards: 720 Stardust and 720 XP

- Power up Pokémon 10 times – 15 Poké Balls
- Catch 20 Psychic-type Pokémon – Abra encounter (can be shiny)
- Evolve 3 Psychic-type Pokémon – 3 Max Revives
Rewards: Wobbuffet encounter (can be shiny), 10 Hyper Potions, and 10 Inkay Candy

How to Complete the Misunderstood Mischief Special Research
As stated above, the Misunderstood Mischief Special Research story will have a staggered release. So while you can complete a lot of the tasks as soon as it launches on September 1st, you’ll then have to wait for the rest to unlock later. The next set is going to be released on September 5th, so check back then. And more will roll out throughout the Season of Mischief. How to Catch Hoopa in Pokémon GO
The ultimate goal of this Special Research and the Season of Mischief is to catch Hoopa. By completing the Special Research you will qualify for a future event that fans hope will lead to the arrival of Hoopa in Pokémon GO. In fact, the event on September 5th is called Hoopa’s Arrival, so all signs point to him being the final reward for either this research or the season as a whole.
