Using the right weapon and the right ammo can be the difference between life and a gory death in Resident Evil 2. Yes, you already knew that wielding the right gun can be important, but later in the game you’ll also unlock different types of ammunition for those guns. While it’s an important part of the game, RE2 doesn’t go too far out of its way to explain how the new mechanic works. Here’s how to switch ammo types in Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Whether it’s the grenade launcher or one of the other weapons in RE2 that allows for different types of ammo, the method of changing it is the same. First off, the option won’t even be available if you don’t already hold two different kinds of ammo, so make sure they’re both available in your inventory. Then equip the weapon and to switch around just hit the right bumper on Xbox One, R1 on PS4, or E on PC.

Hitting these buttons for the proper platform will immediately switch your ammo around, alternating from fire grenades to acid, for example. Make sure you use this whenever you’re running low on a key piece of ammunition, or when the enemy type is more susceptible to the other ammo.
