The shotgun, it’s a favorite of all Resident Evil fans. The iconic weapon makes a return in Resident Evil 7, and just like the early games, it isn’t just handed to you. In fact, it’s quite well hidden, despite being put right on display for you to find and grab. Once you grab it, you need to do certain things in order to keep it, so we’re here to help. Here’s our guide on how to get the shotgun in Resident Evil 7.

As I said, the shotgun isn’t hard to find. It’s in the main room of the house that you find yourself in after being knocked out by the Family. It is being held by a statue, which lifts when you pick it up, causing the door to slam shut, trapping you inside. To get the shotgun you need something to put in its place, which can conveniently be found upstairs through the Rec Room and into Grandma’s Room.

I say conveniently, but it’s actually rather inconvenient since it’s locked behind a door that requires the Scorpion Key. If you have the key then great, use it here and continue on with this guide. If you don’t have the Scorpion Key then click here to check out our other guide specifically on where to find it.

Now that you definitely have the Scorpion Key just use it to open the Grandma’s Room door and grab the broken shotgun that sits near the door. Make sure you have plenty of inventory space, because the shotgun takes two slots, and there’s lots of supplies in this room. Once you have it, just head back to the main room, making sure to have two empty inventory spaces, and go into the statue room where the real shotgun sits. Grab it, and place the broken shotgun in its place by activating the statue again. Put the broken shotgun in the statue’s arms and the doors will open, letting you out with your new toy in hand.

That’s it for how to get the shotgun in Resident Evil 7. Be sure to check out our Beginners Guide for more tips on how to survive in the game, and let us know in the comments if anything is causing you trouble.
