Super Smash Bros. Ultimate made headlines when it was announced that it would contain every fighter who had ever graced the series. What was truly shocking though, was that that wasn’t all it would have. 77 fighters are available right from the beginning, though you have to unlock them through gameplay of course. But Nintendo isn’t stopping there, with at least five more fighters on the way through DLC. The first is Piranha Plant, but there’s more to getting this character then just putting in your credit card number. Here’s how to get Piranha Plant in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
If you’re reading this close to launch, then you likely can get Piranha Plant without spending any extra money. Billed as a pre-order bonus, the newest fighter to be added to the long running Smash series is actually more like an early adopter bonus. All you have to do to get him in your game for free is buy Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and register it to your My Nintendo account any time before January 31st, 2019. If you buy the game digitally, and have your My Nintendo account tied to your Switch, then it should happen automatically. Otherwise just head to the site and register manually.
Once you do that you will have unlocked the character on your account, but the wait isn’t over. It’s likely that Piranha Plant will be added shortly after the January 31st deadline, but no firm release date has been announced. You’ll just have to wait until Nintendo finishes designing and fine tuning the character before he shows up. If you followed the steps above though, you’ll have him as soon as you can, and without spending any extra money.
