It’s looking incredibly likely that Fortnite is heading to China later this month. The Battle Royale title which has surged in popularity in 2018 could see another huge boost to its player base by expanding into the the Chinese market.
The news has not yet been confirmed by Epic Games, but a recent Tweet says just about all you need to know. The message on social media states, “The Battle Bus is taking off! Destination, China.” While some thought that this might mean that a new map is on the way, it’s looking more like the arrival of Fortnite for Chinese players.
Right now, it’s unclear how this will impact current Fortnite players. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds expanded into the Chinese market last year and have had a hacking problem ever since. Will Fortnite see the same fate or will they learn lessons from PUBG Corp? Hacking in games seems to be far more prevalent in China than it is in other countries and some would say its been one of the major mis-steps of PUBG Corp for not region locking the game.
How Epic Games plans to deal with the Chinese market is anyone’s guess. An image in the tweet shows a passport that’s been stamped for April 23rd. We’ll have to wait and see what, if anything, happens on that date.
