Expect GTA V No Earlier Than Holiday 2012

Will Max Payne 3 force GTA even further into the future?

by William Schwartz

With Rockstar’s recent announcement of Max Payne 3, analysts have started to push back their estimates on a release date for GTA V. According to recent predictions by an industry analyst with Cowen & Co., Take-Two is more likely to hold off on GTA release until holiday of 2012.

In recent research notes the analyst detailed this prediction.

“With the announcement (of Max Payne 3), we are increasingly convinced that we will not see the next Grand Theft Auto title until (at least) holiday 2012. We doubt that Rockstar would launch two of its titles in close proximity to each other given the studio’s elaborate marketing campaigns and the likelihood that GTA could cannibalize sales from MP3 if launched in late spring.”

Given the year starting to take form for Take-Two, this could be the prediction that makes the most sense of all the rumors that have been swirling about the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Can you take it to the bank? For now, nothing has been confirmed by Rockstar or Take Two in regards to GTA V.
