Sonic Frontiers will have you playing through vast open areas with lots to do and collect. However, you’re going to want a map to show how much land you covered and how much there is left to get. You won’t get it all from the start, so here’s what you can do. This is what you need to know on how to unlock more of the map in Sonic Frontiers.
How to Unlock More of the Map in Sonic Frontiers
You can explore anywhere you can, given you have the right abilities to do so in the game. However, if you want to be able to know where exactly you are, you need to complete challenges.
These challenges will be indicated with a question mark inside a red circle on the map. When you approach these areas, you have to solve some kind of puzzle or platforming objective. Once you do, a jingle will play, signaling that you cleared it. Upon clearing the small objective, the area will be scanned and more of the map will be revealed to you.
It’s important to complete as many or even all of the challenges you see. Rails will spawn around them, allowing for faster travel from different points of the map. This will be your way of getting around to far areas before unlocking fast travel.
Unlocking parts of the map will also help you locate additional Memory Tokens and Zone portals. Memory Tokens will be particularly useful when wanting to progress in the Frontiers story. Zone portals will also help you get those Chaos Emeralds faster.
You can also check which parts of the map a particular challenge unlocks based on the blue squares highlighted. This can be seen when hovering over the icon on your map. The squares still left blank are good indicators of where the next set of challenges may be.
Sonic Frontiers is available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
