Iron Galaxy Studios is hosting the Killer Instinct World Cup this weekend where it revealed one new character for the Xbox One exclusive fighter’s Season 3 and teased another. Kim Wu makes her return in a new trailer while the soothing baritones of a certain Halo character voiced by Keith David will be added as well.
Kim Wu originally appeared in Killer Instinct 2 for arcades 20 years ago. The teenage “martial artist, design student, and demon ass-kicker” is on a mission to save the world with her nunchucks and a “friggin’ dragon.” Her story will revolve around the demon Gargos, who was the primary antagonist in the arcade sequel. The deadly gargoyle will play a greater role in Season 3 as a playable character after being a behind the scenes presence during the first two seasons
One non-franchise character has already been revealed for Killer Instinct Season 3 in the form of Rash from Battletoads. A second was also teased at the end of the Kim Wu debut trailer with the Gregorian chant from Halo 5: Guardians punctuated by the activation sound of an Energy Sword wielded by the Arbiter.
The tease also appears to reveal a stage based on the Arbiter’s homeworld of Sanghelios, wich was featured for the first time in Halo 5. The civil war between the remains of the Covenant and the Arbiter’s follower appear to wage in the background as the leader stomps his way through loading a Storm Rifle.
Killer Instinct Season 3 will debut on the Xbox One sometime in March. It will also debut on Windows 10 and support cross-play between the console and PCs running Microsoft’s latest operating system. The third season of the fighter will also introduce a heavy amount of balance changes meant to encourage player creativity with different playstyles, combos, and setups.
