Left 4 Dead 2 ‘Free’ on Steam for Christmas

by William Schwartz

Update: The Hyperlink works again, and the description states that the game is free until the 26th at 10am PST. This means Left 4 Dead 2 is free forever, as long as the game is installed before that cutoff time. The original story continues below.

Valve have given everyone a Christmas present; Left 4 Dead 2 is available for ‘free’ on Steam. The deal lasts for today only, on Christmas Day (25/12/2013.) Confirmation of the deal can be found over on Steam’s news section.

However, there appears to be a problem with Steam at the moment. At the time of writing this article, the Steam servers are currently unavailable. Attempting to access the Store currently brings up a -101 error, with the following message; “Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not be connected to the internet.”

In addition, the above link to the Steam post isn’t active at the moment. Viewing Google’s preview of the page yields the following text; “Left 4 Dead 2 is FREE today only on Steam!* Free Zombies! To celebrate the holidays in a special way this year, Left 4 Dead 2 will be free until 10AM PST on …” Unfortunately, the description ends there. So, it seems as though Valve are not actually giving their game away for free, but merely providing access to it for a limited time (one that we can’t currently check.)

We will endeavor to keep this page updated when the news develops.
