Vampyr, the action-RPG by Life is Strange developer DONTNOD, is due for release in a little over a month, on June 5. Since the announcement of the game’s release date, we’ve gotten a story trailer and now today (May 3), we get a trailer focused more on gameplay.
In the new trailer, we see some of the abilities protagonist Jonathan Reid can gain if he chooses to murder civilians. The description of the video explains, “the greatest source of XP to learn and enhance abilities comes from the blood of London’s citizens.” So, unlike in other RPGs where experience points are earned by killing enemies, in Vampyr, the easiest way to become more powerful and learn new abilities is by killing oftentimes innocent bystanders. If you’re willing to do so, however, you’ll be given access to an array of vampiric powers. These range from long-distance abilities, like making a large spear appear beneath an opponent and impale them, to short distance powers, such as growing claws to hack your way through your enemies. As you get stronger, you may gain access to abilities that even vampires fear. It was also shown in the new trailer that holy images, such as crosses, will impair the player’s ability to fight by sending out blinding lights, making it difficult to see.
Vampyr launches on June 5 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. You can watch the new trailer below.
