Persona 5 Royal Launches in March in the West

Atlus was planning on revealing the western release date of the upcoming Persona 5 Royal later today, but it looks like the Phantom Thieves have sent their calling card a bit early. Listings for the game have shown up on Amazon Canada with a release date of March 31, 2020.

A Steelbook Launch Edition and Phantom Thieves Edition of the game have shown up, with both listing the 31st of March as the release date. Usually, websites like Amazon will have the last day of a given month as a placeholder date for a game without a set date, but the promotional images showcasing the game have “Available March 31, 2020” proudly stamped on them, which practically confirms the release date.

The Steelbook Launch Edition is pretty self-explanatory. The game comes in a special Steelbook case featuring Joker and the rest of the Phantom Thieves, with newcomer Kasumi placed front and center on the cover. Purchasers of the Steelbook Launch Edition will also receive a code for a dynamic PlayStation 4 theme.

The Phantom Thieves Edition comes with the same Steelbook case, but also a bunch of fancy extras. Just like the Take Your Heart Premium Edition that shipped alongside the original version of Persona 5, the Phantom Thieves Edition comes with an art book, a dynamic PS4 theme, and a soundtrack CD. It’s unclear how many tracks the CD will have, but the soundtrack CD that came with the Take Your Heart Edition only featured a selection of 19 songs from the game’s massive 110 OST. The real draw of the Phantom Thieves Edition, however, is the replica of Joker’s mask. It’s a great piece to include in a collector’s edition, and it even comes with a stand to display it on.

Persona 5 Royal will add an entire semester onto Persona 5’s story as well as new characters, locations, and confidants. The official release date announcement is supposed to happen later today according to Atlus, so stay tuned for that.

UPDATE: The game’s release date has been officially announced alongside a trailer showcasing some of the game’s new additions. Check it out below.
