PlayStation 4 and Injustice 2 Win May NPD

The NPD Group has revealed the best selling hardware and software charts in North America for the month of May, with PlayStation 4 and Injustice 2 coming on top of their respective best-sellers lists. Nintendo Switch allowed hardware spending to grow 7 percent from May 2016, even though the supply constraints are still affecting the console. On the other hand, the sum of PS4 and Xbox One’s total sales remains ahead of PS3 and Xbox 360’s at the same point launch aligned by 29 percent.

Injustice 2 topped the general software chart with impressive sales that are reportedly even higher than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s total, and were enough to top the PS4 and Xbox One individual charts as well. Other new entries include Prey at number 5 and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia at number 7. PSVR exclusive Farpoint makes a surprise appearance in the general top 20 at number 16, which underscores the importance of the title for the platform.

Other new entries appeared in the platform specific charts, with Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers and Disgaea 5 Complete entering the Nintendo Switch list at number 3 and 4 respectively.

As for holdovers, most titles in the top 20 remain near their April positions, with the unfortunate exception of Persona 5, which has disappeared from the charts after entering the general list at number 2 last month. On the other hand, Nier: Automata proved to be the Japanese breakout hit of the year for PS4, climbing one spot this month and reaching number 18 on the general list and number 10 on the PS4 list.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands continues to be the best selling videogame of the year, while Injustice 2 makes an entrance in the top 10 at number 9.
