Pokémon GO may not be supported on your Apple phone or tablet shortly. Niantic has revealed that they will be dropping support for Apple devices that are not capable of upgrading to iOS 11 beginning on February 28th, 2018.
Right now, the devices that this will impact our older phone models like the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. Niantic explained the move and why they are dropping support for these devices. “This change is a result of improvements to Pokémon GO that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices.”
Once this goes live, those playing Pokémon GO on these devices will no longer be able to access their accounts, use PokéCoins or other items in-game.
A full list of devices that will be incompatible with Pokémon GO following the update can be found below:
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 5
- iPad (4th Generation)
- iPad (3rd Generation)
- iPad mini (1st Generation)
- iPad 2
After the update, trying to login with one of these devices users will see a message that states that they need to switch to a supported device to play the game. Devices not in the list above will not be affected by any changes being made on this date.
