Bandai Namco mentioned a few months ago that Tekken X Street Fighter has been put on hold as they are busy working on Tekken 7. Now the game’s producer is saying the game’s development lies on the success of the mainline video games.
Gamespot had a chance to interview Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada and they asked him about the status of Tekken X Street Fighter. The game was announced back in 2010 and we’ve yet to see any gameplay or official screenshots.
Harada said: “Reasons are…right now SF5 just launched, Capcom is putting a tremendous effort into making that successful. On our side we released Tekken 7 in the arcade. It was even more popular than we imagined, and so we each have these two main franchises that we are trying to promote, and to have the players enjoy the moment.
So business-wise it’s not a very good decision to throw in another launch. So, as you say, if Tekken 7 does extremely well, and Street Fighter 5 is in a good position, then maybe there is a time later on to revisit that conversation.”
There you have it. From a business standpoint, Bandai Namco does not want to rush out Tekken X Street Fighter so quickly if there isn’t a demand for it.
Tekken 7 is likely to do well as it’s been years since we’ve received a Tekken video game on consoles. Hopefully Tekken X Street Fighter comes out eventually as a lot of people have been wanting to play it since 2010.
