Some say Sagat was unduly nerfed. Others maintain that he is still overpowered. Capcom has eliminated the need for such controversy by revealing a new “Edition Mode” for Ultra Street Fighter 4.

During this weekend’s Southern California Regionals 2014, Peter “Combofiend” Rosas made the announcement. With this new mode, players will be able to enter the arena as past versions of their favorite fighters. At the character select screen, any given character will be available in a number of iterations, including those from Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Arcade Edition 2012, or Ultra Street Fighter 4.

As there have been major re-balances with each of these editions, the option to experiment with new and old builds in a single game should be interesting. Edition Mode will likely be banned from official tournament play, as the aforementioned balancing issues would throw a wrench into serious match-ups.

A full list of character details is available over at the Shoryuken wiki.

Ultra Street Fighter 4 is scheduled to release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in June, with a PC version following in August. Console versions will retail at $39 and the PC release will cost $29, but Super Street Fighter 4 owners will enjoy a reduced upgrade price of $14.99.
