Even though you can drive a jeep in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Naughty Dog confirmed the game is not open world.
Naughty Dog’s Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann was interviewed by the PlayStation Blog where they talked more about the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End demo from E3 2015.
As mentioned before, the E3 2015 demo for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End showed Nathan Drake driving around in a jeep. It wasn’t a scripted event, as the jeep is playable by gamers. However, the game doesn’t have open world environments by any means.
Druckmann described how cool it is driving the jeep in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. He said with bad guys all over Nathan Drake, your foot will always be on the gas. He also mentioned other things you can do with the jeep such as jumping in and out and go exploring. The levels are large enough for you to go “great distances“.
Straley elaborated on Druckmann’s comments saying Naughty Dog is not “creating an open world where you can take the Jeep anywhere“. Naughty Dog still has a structured story to tell in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Yes, you can explore sometimes but you cannot run off and do your own thing all of the time.
