YouPorn Is Interested In Sponsoring An eSports Team

According to a tweet sent out yesterday by YouPorn’s official account, the free pornography website is interested in sponsoring a professional eSports team. “Do we have any competitive LoL (League of Legends), DOTA2, or HeartStone players following us? What do you think about YouPorn sponsoring a team?” 

Most of the responses have been extremely positive toward the idea. Some people replied with jokes such as “DO IT” or “I would start to play these games if you are sponsoring me.” Some seemingly serious replies were had though. “I’m a competitive LoL player, not considered a pro. Unfortunate that I don’t have a team” said Twitter user @QueenMeagxo. Another response from @EscobarDrake reads “hey @YouPorn hi im a LoL Player, Lee sin challenger i can be your jungle if you create a team lets do it !!!!!”

None of these offers appear to be from major players or teams at this time, but the possibility has caused quite a stir. YouPorn is one of the top 100 most accessed websites on the web, making them an extremely powerful sponsor for any eSports team. However, the nature of their business might cause some teams to pass on the offer who otherwise could use the resources.

So far the original tweet has been retweeted over 3500 times, and favorited over 2200. If a team exists who is willing to accept the offer, they should hear about it soon. League of Legends and DOTA 2 are both MOBAs, or multiplayer online battle arena games.

League of Legends is currently considered the most played PC game, while DOTA 2 features the highest prize pool of any eSports tournament. Hearthstone meanwhile is a card battling game, similar to Magic: The Gathering. All three games have very active competitive communities, with Hearthstone recently making the news after a tournament barred females from entering. This policy was reversed after public outcry.

With eSports becoming more and more of a mainstream activity, it isn’t surprising to see a company like YouPorn try to get in on the action. Whether a team will take the offer or not will probably depend on how much they need the money, and how important they feel it is for the community to remain family friendly. We’ll have to wait and see if any major teams or players take YouPorn up on their offer.
