Donald Trump Jr. has publicly backed Vice President JD Vance after Vance blamed the recent Iran war for the Republican Party losing control of both the House and the Senate in the midterms. These election results are significant because they limit the power of the Republican Party in the US and will shape the final two years of the second and final term of President Donald Trump.
As reported by LADbible, Vance shared a lengthy post on X where he laid the blame for the losses on the ongoing war. He wrote, “The reason we lost is the war,” and he added, “The president himself said so last night. If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so.”
He noted that while Republican voters did show up to the polls, many of those who voted for the Trump/Vance ticket in 2024 chose to vote for Democrats in 2026. According to Vance, a pollster he respects found that voters who abandoned the party were motivated by four main factors: ending the war, focusing on inflation and the cost of living, putting America first, and changing the relationship with Israel.
Trump says the decision to engage in the conflict was necessary
Vance concluded his thoughts by stating, “But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there.” Donald Trump Jr. signaled his agreement with the Vice President by sharing the post on his own X account. He wrote, ‘every word of this is…’ and included three Hundred Points emojis to show his support.
The President has since acknowledged that the war had an impact on the elections, though he maintains that the decision to engage in the conflict was necessary. When speaking with reporters, he said, “The Iran thing we had to do, and we continue to do it.” He also noted, “I can tell you that as far as that war is concerned, I would have done nothing different.”
The President also expressed his belief that the outcome would have been different if he had been on the ballot himself. He mentioned that he was unable to transfer the love he felt at his rallies to other candidates, saying, “But they just, you couldn’t transfer that love. There was such love at those rallies, it was incredible , and we weren’t able to transfer the love to candidates.”
