Bethesda May Be Working on a Game of Thrones Game

UPDATE: According to recent reports and responses from Target, the listing was a hoax. It’s still worth watching for more info, but for now this was just a rumor.

Original Story: There was recently a possible leak involving what appears to be a new game by developer Bethesda, who are known for their Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises, among others. It would seem that this new, possible project is related to the hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones.

Originally spotted by a NeoGAF user, the leak comes in the form of a page on Target’s website. The page simply reads, “Bethesda : Game of Thrones.” There is no other information given, not even that the alleged product is actually a video game. Bethesda has not made any announcement regarding a Game of Thrones game, nor have they responded to the rumors that have ensued after the Target page was found. As of the time I am writing this article, the Target page has yet to be taken down.

Game of Thrones is a franchise that isn’t new to video game adaptations, as Telltale Games, known for their The Walking Dead series among others, released their take on the franchise throughout 2014 and 2015. Telltale’s adaptation was a narrative-based point-and-click adventure game, the genre the company is known for. If the rumors of Bethesda making an adaptation are true, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to assume that the game would be an open-world, fantasy RPG, a style of game they already have experience making from their various entries in the Elder Scrolls series.
