Elon Musk recently shared why he doesn’t like the GTA franchise. Grand Theft Auto games have always been about doing crimes, including killing police officers. Rockstar Games created these games to make fun of American culture and show the crimes that happen in the country. Even though the franchise is hugely popular, Musk said it’s not for him.
During a recent interview on Nikhil Kamath’s show called People by WTF, Musk talked about morality. The host asked him if he had played GTA, where players must do crimes to move forward in the game. The Tesla CEO said he played some GTA 5 but didn’t like that he had to kill police officers to keep playing.
According to Sportskeeda, Musk went further and said he doesn’t like killing NPCs at all in video games. This happens often in many games, even ones he has played before. He stopped playing GTA completely because the game forced him to kill police officers to progress.
Musk prefers other types of video games
Here’s what he said during the interview: “I have only played a little bit of GTA. In GTA 5, you literally cannot progress unless you kill the police. And I’m like, this does not work for me. I actually do not like killing the NPCs in video games, its not my thing. So, actually I did not like GTA, I actually stopped when it said the only way to proceed is to shoot at the police. Like, I don’t want to do that.”
The multi-billionaire has always loved video games. He has played popular titles like Elden Ring, Diablo 4, and Path of Exile. He is even considered a top-ranked player in dungeon crawler games like Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2. Musk has been making headlines for his strong opinions on various topics recently.
This isn’t the first time Musk talked about not playing GTA games. Back in December 2023, Rockstar Games released GTA 6‘s trailer. Musk replied to a Twitter employee’s post about the game series and explained his reason.
He said he tried GTA 5 but stopped when the game made him attack and kill police officers. Many GTA fans and other gamers had mixed reactions to what Musk said. Some understood his point while others disagreed with his view on the game. Meanwhile, some Tesla owners distance themselves from Musk due to his controversial public statements.
