Microsoft reported today in their quarterly earnings report that Xbox sales on are on the rise. Â The quarter ending on September 30, 2014 saw console sales rise over 100%, and with Xbox 360 sales on the decline, this rise is likely attributable to an increase in demand for the Xbox One.
Xbox sales jumped 102% from July to September
The company says that they’ve sold 2.4 million Xbox consoles in the period, with the Xbox One launching in 28 new markets. Â Despite the increases in worldwide sales that Microsoft is reporting, the Xbox One is still lagging behind Sony’s PlayStation 4 in domestic sales.
2014 has been a year where Sony headlines have dominated the monthly NPD reports. Â While analysts predicted that September might be the month where Microsoft outsells Sony, numbers came in strong for the PS4.
Though the sales spike must be encouraging for Microsoft after taking many actions to spur sales in recent months. Â Decoupling the Kinect from the console, offering numerous incentives for purchasing an Xbox One, and launching in new territories is obviously having a positive impact for the console.
