Fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise have not been able to play much of it during the current generation of consoles. We did get the release of Metal Gear Solid V in 2015, and Konami is giving the final touches to the bizarre Metal Gear Survive, but aside of those two very particular takes on the series, most of the content was kept locked in previous consoles…until now.
Fans of the franchise have spotted a small but significant detail on the official website of developer Armature. On the section of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, you can see PS4 listed as one of the platforms receiving the game. The studio originally developed the PSVita version – Bluepoint was in charge of the PS3 port – and this seems like a definitive sign that they are planning to take the game to the next genration of home consoles.
The HD Collection included Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. All three of them featured upgraded visuals and the bonus content from the PS2 re-releases, including new game modes and gameplay features. The PSVita also included touch controls.
So far there are no signs that the collection could be upgraded to include ports of MGS4 or even the original Metal Gear Solid in HD, but we won’t turn our noses to the arrival of these three great games, some of them even considered the best in the series by some fans.
Stay tuned to AOTF for more news on this project coming in the future.
