Bandai Namco has announced that SoulCalibur 6 will be arriving on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 19, 2018.
It has only been a few months since SoulCalibur 6 was announced at The Game Awards, but thanks to a constant stream of updates, we know a fair amount about the upcoming title. For instance, as evidenced by the presence of a younger Mitsurugi and Siegfried, as well as Sophitia in general, we know the game will be a soft-reboot that revisits the events of the original SoulCalibur, but will also reveal further details about the lore.
Here is more from Bandai Namco:
Taking place in the 16th century, Soulcalibur VI sets players on a voyage of discovery as they uncover events from the original Soulcalibur to learn hidden truths. The game will also feature a diverse line-up of new and returning characters with their unique fighting styles and weapons including series mainstays; Mitsurugi and Sophitia and newcomers such as special guest-character, Geralt of Rivia, from CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher series and GrØh who was recently announced.
While on the subject of characters, we know 13 members of the starting roster:
- Sophitia
- Mitsurugi
- Kilik
- Xianghua
- Nightmare
- Groh
- Ivy
- Zasalamel
- Geralt
- Siegfried
- Taki
- Yoshimitsu
- Maxi
On top of all this, the newly-released story trailer helps set the stage for the respective journeys each character will embark upon to either acquire the Soul Edge, or prevent others from obtaining it.
The story trailer also makes mention of two special editions of SoulCalibur 6 that fans will be available for a limited time:
Collector’s Edition
- A copy of the game
- Collector’s Edition box
- Metal case with built-in soundbox
- 12-inch collectible Sophitia figure
- Soundtrack on disc
- 120-page art book
Deluxe Edition
- A copy of the game
- Metal case with built-in soundbox
- Soundtrack on disc
- Season Pass (includes 3 playable characters, 2 armor packs and one season pass bonus character)
Overall, this is some pretty nice stuff and the promise of DLC characters is pretty cool (maybe characters like Talim and Cassandra who appeared in later entries?). That said, I really do have to wonder why the Season Pass isn’t included in the Collector’s Edition. The same thing happened with Final Fantasy XV’s Collector’s Edition too. Is this a thing now? Why?
Also, is that Cervantes at 0:42 in the trailer?
To reiterate, SoulCalibur 6 is due out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 19.
