What Does the Cartographer in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Do

The Cartographer in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is perhaps one of the best settlement upgrades to grab early. In a way he largely removes the need to purchase the cash shop maps, which is a win in my book. So, how exactly does the Cartographer work, and what does he do?

The Cartographer in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla sells maps that reveal item locations on the map.

The cartographer in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is your go-to man whenever you’re trying to hunt down explicit Wealth items, and don’t want to run to each yellow orb on the map just to see what it is. He’ll become available at Settlement rank 3, and will cost 800 supplies and 60 raw materials. Once you enter a new zone (territory) the cartographer will begin to sell maps for each type of Wealth item available, and these go for 35 silver apiece (so, pennies).

Each type of Wealth item will have its own map, and each purchase will reveal one of that item. So, if there are two gear pieces in Cent (as pictured above), you’ll have to buy both maps to reveal each. While this may seems a touch tedious, it’s still cheaper than paying actual cash for a “Utilities” map from the cash shop. So, if you are hunting down an specific armor set, you can easily read the description on one piece to see what zones the other pieces are in, then hoover up the maps to collect each within minutes.

The Cartographer in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla comes with a second, free benefit. Think about it: by simply browsing his maps you’ll learn what Wealth items are in a zone, and how many. Those of you out there that prefer to explore without the game signposting all its secrets (like ya’ll who disable the HUD) can use the Cartographer to gain an idea of what’s available per zone, and go from there. It may not seem like much, but you should never sleep on free intel.
