Diablo 2: Resurrected is fun to play with friends, but playing solo and enjoying the story on your own terms can be a great experience, too. Every class is viable for solo play in Diablo 2: Resurrected, but some definitely provide smoother experiences than others and it’s important to choose your class wisely, as it’s the one you’ll be going to Hell and back with. Literally. In this guide, we will be covering the best solo classes in Diablo 2: Resurrected for different styles of play.
The Best Solo Class for Beginners: Necromancer
The Summoner build for Necromancer is a solid choice for a solo class in Diablo 2: Resurrected and the one I personally picked for my single-player playthrough. The Necromancer is able to summon a Golem very early on, which tanks massive damage and is instantly replaceable upon its death. Your golem, combined with your massive army of skeletons, can absolutely melt packs of monsters down without requiring the player to lift a single finger. The player can, however, use Corpse Explosion for devastating AoE damage sitting safely behind the comfort of their colossal necrotic army, or actively supply buffs that make minions stronger.
The Necromancer also doesn’t need specific item requirements to do well, making it a great starting class or the perfect choice for somebody just wanting to experience Diablo 2: Resurrected‘s story. Even if the player decides they want to continue after the credits, their Necromancer can easily handle harder difficulties on his own.
The Best Caster Solo Class: Sorceress
If you’ve had a poke around at different classes at the beginning of your Diablo 2: Resurrected playthrough, bear with me on this one. The sorceress is definitely very squishy at first, but the further she progresses, the better at solo-play she gets. Powerful AoE abilities, plenty of crowd-control to prevent taking damage and most importantly: Teleport. Teleport can allow the player to completely skip entire packs or mobs or escape from danger if things get too heated. It’s an absolute blessing in solo games and a skill that can save a lot of time, whether that’s skipping trash mobs or escaping a death run.
Although it’s usually recommended to stick to one skill tree in Diablo 2: Resurrected, occasionally nabbing the odd spell from others, The Sorceress should combine all three trees in solo-play. Fireball, Meteor, Frozen Orb and Teleport are all skills that can make playing on your own a breeze and doesn’t require specific loot, either.
The Best Melee Solo Class: Paladin
Paladins are another solid choice for solo-play due to their straightforward gameplay and high damage output without having to sacrifice defence. Holy Shield and protective Auras can keep the player safe, while spells like Blessed Hammer can burn down hoards of demons. If you don’t mind grinding for it, a high-level Runeword ‘Enigma’ can make the Paladin the absolute best class for solo-play, due to providing a means of teleportation on top of the already fantastic defence and attack the Paladin provides on its own.
If you do decide to play with friends down the line, the Paladin is an incredible class for multiplayer, too. Casting Auras on your friends can empower their abilities and produce massive amounts of damage that will leave them not wanting to play without you.
