Final Fantasy XIV Fantasia Explained: How to Change Appearance and Race

Recommended Videos

Final Fantasy XIV has a vast array of races for you to select from and at first, you may be creating your character but choosing the fastest thing you can in order to get into the game quicker. Later down the line, you may actually decide that you want to change your race, but there are a few hoops to jump through in order to be able to change your character’s appearance. You will need to use a specific item called a Fantasia to do so and this guide will explain everything you need to know about the Fantasia in Final Fantasy XIV.

How to Change Hairstyle in Final Fantasy XIV

If you just want to alter certain parts of your character’s appearance such as hairstyles and face markings, you can do this through the Aesthetician after completing their unlock quest in Limsa Lominsa (a great place for bard music). The quest is titled “Beauty is Only Skin Deep” and can be obtained from the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks by speaking to an NPC named S’dhodjbi (X :11.1, Y: 11.0). You must be level 15 to accept this quest.

Once the Aesthetician is unlocked, you will be able to alter your character’s hair in an inn room. However, if you are wanting a complete race change, you will need a Fantasia.

How to Change Appearance and Race

If you want to make major changes to your character’s appearance or change races entirely, then you’ll need a Fantasia potion. This is a premium item that costs real-world money, so you’ll need to spend some cash if you want to swap to a Viera or change your character’s skin tone. Yes, anything outside of hairstyles and makeup will require a Fantasia to change, so you’ll need to spend the cash even just toalter something as simple as your height.

FFXIV Fantasia Explained

Fantasia costs real-world cash and can be bought through the Mog Station Store for $10. With this, you will be able to alter every aspect of your character from race to height and more. However, before you jump to get your card ready to purchase this Fantasia, you will be happy to know that you get a free Fantasia to complete the base game’s main story. All you have to do is complete The Praetorium at the end of the A Realm Reborn main storyline and you will receive one for free.

When you have got the Fantasia, you can simply activate it through your inventory, make sure to unequip your appearance gear first before utilizing the item. After using a Fantasia, you’ll have to log out and log back into the game. When you log back in, you will be prompted to enter the character creator to make any desired changes.

Final Fantasy XIV is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
