How to Evolve Smoliv into Dolliv and Arboliva in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Even long-time Pokémon fans are sure to be surprised by the new creatures in Scarlet and Violet. Bread-based dogs and grass cats make up only a few of the new faces in these games. One such face belongs to Smoliv, an olive-shaped Grass/Normal-type never seen before. Unlike others introduced in these games, Smoliv is a Pokémon with not one, but two different evolutions. Anyone interested in this new creature should know how to evolve Smoliv into Dolliv — and eventually Arboliva — in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet!

How Can Players Evolve Smoliv into Dolliv — and Dolliv into Arboliva — in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Getting from Smoliv to Dolliv is simple, though it will take some time if you catch the former early on. The evolution will trigger at level 25. There are no specific moves you need to learn or items you need to use. Likewise, Dolliv’s evolution to Arboliva will trigger at level 35. No conditions outside of levelling are required for this line, so if you have plenty of Exp Candies from Tera Raids, you might be all set to evolve as soon as you find a Smoliv in the wild!

You’ll definitely want to reach Arboliva yourself in this evolution line. While both Smoliv and Dolliv are pretty lackluster, this final form has some incredible strength when it comes to Special Attack. It also gets the Seed Sower ability, allowing it to forcibly activate Grassy Terrain whenever it’s hit with an attack. You’ll be able to tear through Water, Rock, and Ground Pokémon with this thing. To top it all off, Arboliva’s Grass/Normal typing makes it immune to Ghost-type attacks! The only thing to be wary of is its speed, which is abysmal at all stages of evolution. If you manage to squeeze out some extra defense from Arboliva, it’s possible that this low speed won’t even matter in the long run.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are Nintendo Switch exclusives.
