A proper open-world RPG wouldn’t be complete without fishing. Sonic Frontiers delivers on that in a way that will make many fans happy, especially when you see who helps you fish along the way. In any case, when starting the game, this isn’t accessible to you. Here’s how you can fish in Sonic Frontiers and what you need to know about it.
How to Fish in Sonic Frontiers
To fish, you’re going to need two things: collect as many Purple Coins as possible and locate the fishing spot on the current island you’re on.
Purple Coins are going to be very useful when fishing in the game. It’s a type of currency needed for each attempt in catching a fish — and other miscellaneous objects hiding underwater.
Next, there is a dedicated fishing spot on each main island. Their entrance looks similar to Zone portals. They have a throne-like design and usually have some lost Koco sitting around. These will also become fast-travel points once you have unlocked the ability to do so.
Once you have done the aforementioned, you can simply enter the portal. Big the Cat will accompany you on your fishing endeavors. He’s even kind enough to lend you a rod!
Fishing is simple enough. You pay the fee to cast your line and follow the on-screen instructions. Once your lure is out in the water, just wait for something to be caught on the line. Reel in whatever caught the line and complete the QTE on the screen. If you press your cast button right as the white circle is within the red circle, you’ll successfully catch the fish or object.
Depending on the size and rarity of what you caught, you’ll earn additional Tokens that you can spend. You can buy all sorts of things like Memory Tokens, Seeds, Vault keys, Lost Koco, and even Skill Pieces.
If you have hundreds of Purple Coins that you collected out in the world, you can go fishing and expedite the collection process of all the materials you need. It’s an easy and relaxing change of pace if all the running around became exhausting
Sonic Frontiers is available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
