Despite premiering on the extremely limited Game Boy handheld device, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening features a lot of dungeons. And of course when the game returned on the Game Boy Color the team decided to add a new one focused on the unique feature of that platform. Thankfully that unique dungeon makes a return in the remake on Nintendo Switch, and players can access it before they even complete the game. Here’s how to get into the Color Dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Switch.
How to Get Into the Color Dungeon
The process for how to get into the Color Dungeon hasn’t really changed in the transition from Game Boy Color to Nintendo Switch. Which means players will need to be partway through the adventure before it becomes available, or at least you need a few items to bring it to Link’s attention. To start, you’ll need the Power Bracelet which lets you move rocks and the Pegasus Boots which allow you to sprint. Once you have them just follow these steps to get into the Color Dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Switch.
To get the in-game instructions for accessing the Color Dungeon just head back to the library that sits to the east of Mabe Village. Inside you’ll see a book perched on the ledge of a bookshelf. Press L to sprint into it using the Pegasus Boots. The book will fall. Read it to receive some cryptic instructions that say 3 up, 4 right, 5 up, 2 left, and 1 down. What does this mean?
The answer lies in the bottom right corner of the cemetery, so head there when you’re ready. There you will see five gravestones which correspond to the numbers. The numbering is a little odd so just stand in the bottom right corner of the cemetery and imagine that you’re counting starting to the left of Link. So the bottom right gravestone is 1, next to it is 2, above that is 3, to it’s right are 4 and 5 sequentially. You need to follow the book’s directions starting with one so push the bottom right gravestone down, the one to its left to the left, the one above that push up, to its right move right, and the final one move up.
If you do it correct there will be a new set of stairs under the final gravestone leading into the Color Dungeon. Head inside and be ready for some challenges. The guards will warn you that you need Magic Powder, so check out the linked guide if you need some and don’t want to buy from them.
