The Legend of Zelda series has always been great at planting seeds early into Link’s journey that do not pay off until some point later. Many times this involves leaving objects you have a feeling you can interact with, but need an item or something to gain access to it. There is one of these very moments found near the very beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening in the form of a book that you can’t reach, and this guide will explain how you can get access to the book.
As someone who goes into every new building I come across, the building seen in the image above was one that I came across very early in my playthrough. This one is found directly to the west of Mabe Village, so there’s a very good chance you may have visited it on your way to the beach to get your sword at the very beginning of the game.
Similar to A Link to the Past, you will see a book up on a shelf with no way to seemingly reach it early on. Just like in that game though, the solution is an item you acquire a bit later, the Pegasus Boots.
The Pegasus Boots are the dungeon item for the third dungeon, Key Cavern, so you’ll have to wait until at least that point to get the book. Then once you have the Pegasus Boots, return to this building and ram right into the shelf with the boots to knock the Red Book off the shelf, which will guide you towards the special Color Dungeon from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX on Game Boy Color.
