Metroid Dread: Release Time, Pre-Load Details, File Size, and More

Recommended Videos

Metroid Dread is just around the corner, and fans are eager to take on a new threat as Nintendo’s favorite female bounty hunter. Of course with any big release on the horizon, we all need to know the most important details like when can we start preloading, the exact minute when the digital version unlocks, and how much hard drive space we need to download our titles.

Here is all you need to know to be ready on day one.

Metroid Dread Release Time

Metroid Dread is going to be released on October 8, 2021. For digital pre-orders, the game will be released at 9PM PT and 11 PM CT on October 7. Eastern Standard Time regions will be granted access at 12 AM on October 8. You will need to have the game preloaded.

Metroid Dread Preload details

Currently, Metroid Dread is able to be pre-purchased as well as preloaded. Of course, this only works if you acquired the digital version via the Nintendo Switch eShop. Preloading it does not mean you can start playing the game right away. The essential files needed to run the game will be installed, but you won’t have access until it unlocks.

Metroid Dread File size

The game is currently standing at 4.1 GB which is a stunningly small size for a game like this. It’s small enough to fit onto the base 32 that the Switch provides you with. Luckily with its small file size, this can be downloaded within an hour if your internet connection is good enough.

What is Metroid Dread?

Metroid Dread is actually a direct sequel to the Game Boy Advance game Metroid Fusion. That game came out 19 years ago, so unless you’re a diehard fan of the series and remember everything, you’re good to go. Luckily, you do not have to know the events that transpired in that game to be up to speed in this new game.

All you need to know is that this is a 2D game akin to that of the GBA era and before. It’s not like Prime and its sequels where it’s a first-person shooter. Its difficulty is to be determined, but if any past games are used as indicators, chances are this one might pose some challenges.

Metroid Dread will be released on the Nintendo Switch on October 8.
