Pokemon GO Water Festival 2022 Guide: Spawns, Research, and More

It’s Spring, so it’s time to get into the Water Festival in Pokemon GO! You’ll find new Pokemon to catch, new research to partake in, and so much more to get you outside and hunting for new and exciting Pokemon.

But, what does this new festival all entail? Let’s dive in and take a look at some of the new Pokemon spawns, research opportunities, and more!

New Water Festival Pokemon

Starting on May 12th at 10:00 am and running until May 20th, 2022 at 8:00 pm local time, you’ll be able to get your hands on a whole new set of Pokemon! You’ll be able to find these Pokemon in the wild, during raids, and during Special Encounters:

  • Laparas – Costume (Scarf)
  • Dewpider
  • Araquanid
  • Tapu Fini

You’ll also be able to finally get your hands on a Shiny Binacle, as they have finally received their shiny version in the game.

Global Challenge

From May 11th at 1:00 pm until May 21st at 1:00 am PDT, you’ll find a new Global Challenge awaiting you! You’ll be tasked, alongside everyone else in the world, with catching a total of 600,000,000 Water-type Pokemon. No, that is not a typo, you’ll just need to hope that everyone else is taking advantage of the enhanced spawn rates for Water-type Pokemon in the wild! Thankfully, you’ll also receive 2x Candy for catching Pokemon for this Global Challenge Reward!

Timed Research

There are going to also be some Timed Research events going on through this timeframe, where you’ll be able to earn 50 Gyarados Mega Energy, 1,000XP, 1,000 Stardust, and even a special encounter with Lapras and Dewpider!

Wild Encounters

You’ll find these Pokemon spawning much more frequently in the world around you, as well:

  • Laparas – Costume (Scarf) – Shiny
  • Dewpider
  • Slowpoke – Shiny
  • Goldeen – Shiny
  • Staryu -Shiny
  • Magikarp – Shiny
  • Marill – Shiny
  • Lotad – Shiny
  • Surskit
  • Carvanha – Shiny
  • Wailmer – Shiny
  • Tympole – Shiny
  • Binacle – Shiny

And if you’re lucky, you may come across these Pokemon in the wild, too:

  • Poliwhirl
  • Mantine – Shiny
  • Alomomola – Shiny

If you’re itching for battle, you’ll be able to take these Pokemon on in new raids during the event:

One Star Raids

  • Feraligatr

Some of these Pokemon are also going to be shiny, as well! So make sure that you’re well prepared with items to take on as many as you need!

Field Research Task Encounters & Rewards

You’ll have a chance to run into these Pokemon after completing special Research Tasks:

  • Magikarp
  • Carvanha
  • Wailmer
  • Luvdisc
  • Binacle
  • Dewpider
  • Lapras – Costume (Scarf)
  • Marill

And you’ll also receive some Blastoise and Gyarados Mega Energy from finishing up these tasks!

Event Bonuses

In the world itself, you find some sweet bonuses that can help you out in your journey:

  • 2x Candy from Hatching Eggs
  • Increased Candy XL from hatching Eggs
  • Rainy Lure Modules activated during the event will last for 2 hours
