How Does Wordle Work?

Wordle is a simple browser game where you have six tries to guess the daily word. Every word entered must contain five letters and exist in the English language. Random combinations of letters to create gibberish are not accepted, nor are most proper nouns.

The game gives you hints with each word submitted, indicated with green, yellow, and grey boxes. The more green and yellow, the closer you are to getting the correct word! You should always make a habit of using unique letters for each word so you can have an easier time finding an answer by your fourth attempt.

If your grasp of the English language isn’t in tip-top shape, you can check out some “cheats” that can help you understand the flow of the game. Some methods are a lot more ethical than others, but as long as you don’t brag about it, no harm!

You can play Wordle for free via a smart device or PC on the New York Times website.
