How Does Wordle Work?

Wordle is a daily word-guessing game where you have six attempts to get the five-letter word of the day. For each word input onto the screen, you are given clues based on the accuracy of each letter. The more yellow and green you see, the closer you are to getting the right word.

Good starter words are those that are heavy with vowels. For example, using words like ADIEU, AUDIO, or OUIJA eliminate 4 out of the 5 common vowels. From there, you want to ideally construct words with no repeating letters. The better part is, if you used one of the aforementioned words and none of the vowels even yielded a yellow block, you will know that the remaining vowel will be used for the Wordle of the day.

There are ways you can train by playing some Wordle alternatives. You can also technically “cheat” the system if you really want to maintain your streak by all means necessary.

You can play Wordle for free via the New York Times’ website on a smart device or PC.
