Gamers have waited years for a true follow up to the excellent Alien: Isolation, and due to some very cryptic teases they felt they were about to receive it. Today saw the official announcement of the anticipated release, titled Alien: Blackout, but like so many game announcements of late, it left fans rather disappointed. The game is coming, but only to smartphones.
“The terror of Alien is brought to life in Alien: Blackout,” reads the game’s description on Google Play. “Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.”
Fans can pre-register now so that they can download the game as soon as it becomes available. It will release on Android and iOS devices later this year, though no specific date has been given yet. Featuring survival and horror elements, this could be a pretty interesting addition to both the Alien franchise and mobile gaming. It’s not quite what fans were looking for, but we’ll have to wait and see if it ends up surpassing the now lowered expectations.
