Dead Rising 3 unplayable without massive 13GB update on Xbox One

Capcom has pushed out a new update for Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One.  Updates are a pretty common practice for modern-day games, but this update in particular is a massive 13 GB.  The update also won’t allow you to play the game until the update is complete, which means Dead Rising fans could be left out in the cold for hours and hours on end, depending on their internet speeds.

Fortunately, this 13 GB update doesn’t add to the already large 20 GB footprint on the Xbox One HDD.   What’s unclear is just what this update is for, and why everybody needs such a massive patch for the game.  Speculation points to upcoming DLC for the game as the likely culprit, but Xbox One and Dead Rising fans are understandably frustrated with being unable to play the game.

While some fans are just fed up with the lengthy installation process for Xbox One games in general, others are reporting the inability to load game saves once the update is complete.

We’ll have to see if Capcom addresses their fans today with what exactly this update is, why it’s so large, why it’s taking so long to update the game, and if fans should take this as a sign of things to come.

Microsoft is still looking to speed up the update process on Xbox One.  But these issues aside,  Dead Rising 3 is one of the better launch titles for the Xbox One.  You can read our impressions of the game in our Dead Rising 3 Xbox One Review.
