It was only a matter of time before Fortnite took the leap into competitive gaming.  It’s one of the most played and watched games in the world, and Epic has revealed that they plan to foster this growth by funding prize pools for Fortnite: Battle Royale.

In an announcement made today by the Fortnite team, Epic says that they will be providing $100,000,000 “to fund prize pools for Fortnite competitions.”

Epic says that their approach to Fortnite as an eSport will be different.  They say that their goal is to be “more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.”

Details about eligible platforms and competitions should be arriving shortly, according to the developer.

Fortnite: Battle Royale and the lure of professional play with large payouts could bring in some of the biggest streamers in the game.  Those who have the skills could very well be inline for a big payday in this massive prize pool.

Staking $100,000,000 on just the prize pools alone is a significant investment for Epic Games, and that’s only for the first year of competitions.
