Many have been calling the Mega Man franchise near dead for awhile now, following the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 and the complete lack of use of the franchise by Capcom themselves. Perhaps the Blue Bomber’s recent appearance in Super Smash Bros. has brought him back to life, because it has been revealed that he is returning to the airwaves with a brand new animated series.
Set to arrive in 2017, a new Mega Man animated series is coming in a partnership between Dentsu Entertainment USA and Man of Action Entertainment, according to Deadline. Dentsu Entertainment will hold all worldwide broadcast and licensing rights, with Man of Action Entertainment creating, writing, and executive producing the Mega Man series. Man of Action Entertainment definitely has experience in this department, best known for series like Ben-10 and Ultimate Spider-Man.
This is far from the first Mega Man series, with the first coming in the mid ’90s based off the original property and a few others coming later based on a few spinoff series. The original certainly did not set the world on fire critically, so hopefully we will get a much better series this time. The ongoing comic series has been known for its quality, so there is definitely plenty of potential there.
