The Italian version of the PlayStation Store may have hinted that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will have microtransactions.
As discovered by Tmag, the Italian PlayStation Store has a listing for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain already. The page says “Optional in-game purchases“.
“Optional in-game purchases” is pretty much a formal way of saying microtransactions are in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It’s still too early to tell how they’ll be implemented, but they’ll be there in some fashion.
It’s entirely possible Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s microtransactions are solely for the Metal Gear Online portion of the game. The main game is a single player only affair. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to buy your way to victory in the campaign.
If there is a positive thing about this, it’s that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s microtransactions are “optional”. Hopefully the Metal Gear Online portion is still playable and fun without you needing to pay a single extra cent beyond the price of the game itself.
Microtransactions are a touchy subject in video gaming these days. This is all thanks to the rise of mobile gaming which is littered with mircotransactions. Hopefully the microtranscations in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain aren’t too evil.
