Rebellion announces villain simulator Evil Genius 2 for PC

by Lewis White

UK-based developer Rebellion announced today that they’re working on a proper sequel to the PC cult-classic Evil Genius. With a PC version in the early stages of development, Rebellion aren’t currently talking about ports to other platforms, although the idea has not been ruled out completely by the company.

Evil Genius is a much-beloved PC exclusive real-time strategy game from 2004. Otherwise known as The World Domination Simulator, Evil Genius tasked you with creating the lair of an evil Bond-style villain with the ultimate goal of creating a Doomsday Device and rule the world. It was deliciously evil, mwahahahaha!

Rebellion picked up the rights to Evil Genius way back in 2006 from Elixr Studios, who were already working on a follow-up game before their closure in 2005. With only Facebook apps and mobile games utilizing the series license, many fans thought that there would never be a full-fledged sequel to the PC original. While there’s not much, if any, information about this upcoming sequel, it should ease the minds of fans who’re annoyed at Rebellion’s prior treatment of the series. The only information about Rebellion’s sequel is that Evil Genius 2 will not feature a free-to-play model and that the game will be a full-fledged sequel to the original

The original Evil Genius is still available to buy on Steam and the DRM-free GOG, and works quite well on Windows 10 from my experience. The current Steam sale will even be selling it for the low, low price of $2.49/£1.74 until July 5th. If you’re looking for a fun, strategic romp as a villain who isn’t afraid to break every rule in the Geneva Convention, give it a go!

Rebellion are surely hitting their stride this generation and their hands are definitely full. With their upcoming new IP Strange Brigade, a remaster of 2006’s Rogue Trooper and this, Rebellion have a lot on their plate. Now if only we can get a sequel to 2009’s Rogue Warrior, that Micky Rourke rap was hilarious.
