When Ken was first revealed in Street Fighter 5, some fans didn’t like his new look. The series’ producer, Yoshinori Ono, explained the design change in a new interview.

French website GameBlog interviewed Ono recently about Street Fighter 5. Someone on Reddit translated the interview where Ono explains about Ken’s design and more.

Ono said this about Ken: “We heard that people aren’t happy with the changes we made to Ken, but be sure that we’re not changing him because we hate him. We think everybody will understand why we made those changes by playing the story mode we’ll be announcing eventually. I also want to add that what he has on his head is definitely not a banana!”

It sounds like Ken changed his look on purpose and we will find out why while playing the story mode of Street Fighter 5. Still, Ken does look a lot different compared to the other characters in the game. The others still look recognisable, while Ken looks like a totally new person.

Elsewhere in the interview, Ono admitted he’s shocked when he finds out about the leaks that trickle out about Street Fighter 5. Capcom tries its best to announce things on time, but info always seems to leak out which surprises Ono.
