One of Telltale Games’ most beloved episodic series is The Wolf Among Us, based on Bill Willingham’s comic series Fables about fairy tale characters living in New York. Last summer, Telltale announced that a sequel to the game, tentatively titled The Wolf Among Us 2, was in the works, alongside Batman: The Enemy Within and The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Originally, the plan was to have The Walking Dead‘s final season premiere in the first half of 2018 with the second season of The Wolf Among Us starting in the second half of 2018. However, plans have changed and now the new season is expected to begin in 2019.
Telltale recently announced on their website that The Wolf Among Us 2 will now launch in 2019 due to “a few fundamental changes here at Telltale since we first announced the game last summer.” Since Telltale’s announcement of the game last year, the company acquired a new CEO and later laid off a quarter of its workforce, both of which undoubtedly influenced the studio’s release schedule, despite the fact that the company also stated after the lay-offs that the loss of several employees was “not expected to impact the release of any of the company’s previously announced projects.”
Since the announcement last year, Batman: The Enemy Within started and ended and the company has been hard at work developing the final season of The Walking Dead, which it seems has also been delayed past its initial premiere window of the first half of 2018. The recent announcement states that Telltale is happy with how The Wolf Among Us 2 is progressing and that by delaying its release by a few months, they can ensure greater quality of the final product.
