After months of silence on the matter, we got our first bit of new info about Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 3 yesterday, with the developer announcing that it would arrive some time later this year. Now they have followed up that with a promise of more information later, though fans will have to wait a while.

Head of Creative Communications at Telltale, Job J. Stauffer just tweeted “No more details on The Walking Dead Season 3 until this summer, but the main takeaway is that it will be just as much a new beginning as it is a continuation.” It is certainly unfortunate that fans will have to wait until the Summer for more info, but with the companion series based around Michonne running now it makes sense.

The last piece of the tweet was more interesting though, promising what seems to be big changes for the series. It seems like the story of Clementine could continue here, though the idea of a “new beginning” could mean new characters as well.

Stauffer followed up by saying “That doesn’t mean that any specific characters are confirmed, even seemingly obvious ones, but stay tuned later this year for more news.” The specific mention of “seemingly obvious” characters possibly missing could hint at a shift away from Clementine, though with how integral she is to the series it is a definite longshot. Perhaps this is just saying that other characters from The Walking Dead Seasons 1 and 2 might not make it back this time around.

Depending on your ending in the last game, you might still have some friends out there in the zombie apocalypse. Of course, Telltale set things up in each ending so that they could alter the landscape afterward, so don’t necessarily expect to see your friends again when The Walking Dead Season 3 starts up later this year.
