A TikTok creator recently shared a frustrating experience from his local gym that highlights how difficult it can be to handle uncomfortable situations in public spaces. The creator, known as @tgottavision, posted a video from his car after leaving the facility, detailing an encounter where he tried to warn a woman that she was being secretly photographed.
At the time of writing, the video has already gathered more than 4.7 million views and over 4,000 comments from people debating the best way to handle these types of gym etiquette issues. As reported by the Daily Dot, the situation began while the creator was working on bench presses. An older man working out next to him reportedly gestured toward a woman across the gym and remarked that he hoped she would notice him if he stared at her long enough.
The creator reportedly immediately told the man that staring was inappropriate, but the man dismissed his comment entirely. Feeling that the woman should be aware of the unwanted attention, the creator waited for her to finish her set and approached her.
He tried to warn her
He attempted to explain that another member had been watching her, but she simply removed one earbud, told him to leave her alone, and put the earbud back in without any further discussion. After that initial rejection, the creator admitted he felt embarrassed and decided to let the matter go.
However, about 15 minutes later, he reportedly noticed the same man holding his phone toward the woman, who had moved to a treadmill. The creator heard a sound that resembled a camera shutter and confronted the man, asking if he had taken a photo. Although the man initially denied it and claimed his phone was malfunctioning, he handed the device over when pressed.
The creator reportedly found a photo of the woman on the treadmill, deleted it, and made sure to clear it from the recently deleted folder before returning the phone. Because he had definitive proof of the man’s actions, the creator felt obligated to try to warn the woman one more time. He approached her again, but she stopped her treadmill before he could get a word out.
She reportedly told him that she would call the police if he approached her again, forcing him to walk away and finish his workout in silence. While it was awkward, the creator noted that he honestly did not know what else he could have done to handle the situation better.
The response in the comments section has been quite divided. Some people felt that the creator had good intentions but that his efforts were wasted on someone who did not want to hear it. One commenter wrote, “You did the right thing just wrong girl.”
Others pointed out that the woman’s aggressive reaction probably stemmed from a genuine concern for her own safety rather than any personal issue with the creator. One person noted, “If that’s her immediate reaction to a man walking up to her, then that says a lot about men more than her.”
