Nintendo Switch continues to lead hardware sales in North America, according to the information revealed by the NPD Group. The hybrid console has now managed to come on top of the charts for eight months since it was released in March 2017, and repeats the same result than December 2017. However, it is worth mentioning that the numbers among Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 were extremely close this month, with the difference in revenue from the top console to the third one being of only 3%. Overall, hardware revenue grew 119% year-on-year to reach $278 million, with a million consoles sold among all platforms.

While the Switch moved more units, PS4 received more revenue, thanks to the sales of the more expensive Pro model and the support of strong releases like Monster Hunter: World, Dragon Ball Fighter Z, or the exclusive Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT. The future also looks bright for Sony’s Platform, as the numbers of February will reflect the release of the exclusive Shadow of the Colossus, and it will continue to receive a constant flow of PS4-only big productions like God of War in April.

Microsoft’s Xbox One also had good news to share, as the console pulled record numbers of sales and revenue for a month of January. This implies that the release of the Xbox One X model has had a reinvigorating effect on the sales of the console.

Last but not least, the arrival of the Nintendo Switch doesn’t seem to have bothered much the numbers of the Nintendo 3DS, as the handheld console had its best January in revenue since 2014, and the best in sales since 2013.
