How to Increase Inventory Space in Pokemon GO

Recommended Videos

Even if you’ve only played Pokemon GO for a short period, you’ll notice that your item bag tends to get filled up quite quickly. Even as you casually spin different PokeStops that are located in your neighborhood, you may start seeing the dreaded message that your item bag is full, and you cannot receive any other items. Thankfully, you’ll be able to upgrade your item bag to a staggeringly high amount, over 5,000 items!

There are a few different ways that you’ll be able to upgrade your item storage, so you’ll never need to dump your bag out again to make sure you’ve got enough room for a few more Pokeballs. Let’s take a look at the different ways that you’ll be able to do this, and some great ways to earn some Pokecoins!

How Much Does It Cost To Upgrade Item Bag In Pokemon GO?

When you start your journey in Pokemon GO, you’ll have around 350 item slots in your bag. While this seems like a fairly large amount, you’ll come to find out that this can fill up quickly, between PokeStops, and gifts from friends. Even beating Team GO Rocket Grunts will grant you some items, so you may find that your bag is filling up faster than you could expect, so you’ll need to make your way to the Shop and purchase an Item Bag to increase these slots by 50 extra items.

The problem is, is that this upgrade costs 200 Pokecoins, so you’ll need to either shell out a few dollars worth of real-world cash or start earning Pokecoins in-game. We’ll go over the pros and cons of each of these methods, so let’s get into each of them.

Buying Pokecoins with Money

If you’re looking to upgrade your Item Bag as fast as possible, maybe before the start of an event or if you’re going to a new area that has plenty of PokeStops, you’ll be able to purchase Pokecoins in the Shop. You can purchase them in these increments:

  • 100 Pokecoins – $0.99
  • 550 Pokecoins – $4.99
  • 1,200 Pokecoins – $9.99
  • 2,500 Pokecoins – $19.99
  • 5,200 Pokecoins – $39.99
  • 14,500 Pokecoins – $99.99

If you’re looking to max out your item bag to its max total of 5,100 Slots, you’ll need a total of 19,000 Pokecoins, or around $140USD if you’re taking advantage of the bonuses that you receive from buying in bulk. That’s not a light investment, but if you’re a big fan of the game, this may be a worthwhile investment. However, if you’re willing to take things a bit slower, you’ll be able to work your way up by earning Pokecoins.

How To Earn Pokecoins

If you don’t mind taking things slowly, you’ll be able to earn up to 50 Pokecoins from controlling gyms in your area. You’ll be able to earn these coins until your Pokemon have been returned to you, so if you live in a small town, you should be able to make this happen quite easily, especially if there is not a super active Pokemon GO community in your area. Hypotheically, if your Pokemon are returned to you every day after earning 50 coins, you would need to do this for 380 days to get all of the upgrades that you need to get a fully upgraded Item bag.

So, it’s either a game of patience or sinking some cash into the game. Or, you could do both, so you can try to earn some extra PokeCoins while you put a few dollars in here and there. Since there are so many item spaces now, with this number surely growing in the future, you’ll want to make sure that you’re keeping up on your Pokemon GO duties. If you have plenty of space and need to get your hands on more items, you’ll be able to use items like the Pokemon GO Plus or an Auto Catcher to make this happen.
