Charizard is available to battle and to catch in Pokemon GO for the time being. It is available through the Level 3 Raid. Here is everything you need to know about Charizard including its weaknesses and counters.
Can Charizard Be Shiny?
But first, it is important to know that Charizard can be shiny in Pokemon GO. Along with other rare Pokemon like Mega Latias and Latios, shiny Pokemon are all the rage. Whether you are a shiny collector or not, getting a shiny Pokemon is exciting and worth trying for. Charizard can also be evolved into Mega Charizard X or Y which is a really cool ability that no other Pokemon has.
Best Charizard Counters in Pokemon GO
First off, Charizard is especially weak to Rock-type attacks but is also weak to Water- and Electric-type attacks. With that in mind, there are a lot of potential counters to Charizard. Here are the best counters that you’ll want to bring to the fight:
- Rampardos
-
- Fast Move – Smack Down
- Charged Move – Rock Slide
-
- Rhyperior
-
- Fast Move – Smack Down
- Charged Move – Rock Wrecker
-
- Landorus (Therian)
-
- Fast Move – Rock Throw
- Charged Move – Rock Slide
-
- Aerodactyl
-
- Fast Move – Rock Throw

-
As you can see, you can bring basically any Pokemon to the fight as long as they have Rock-type attacks. Although Charizard is weak against Electric- and Water-type moves, you’re best off going for his biggest weakness which is Rock. Charizard is a tough Pokemon to beat, but if you know its weaknesses, you’ll have no problem.
You can take up to 6 Pokemon into Raids. Once you have defeated Charizard in the raid, you’ll have a chance to catch it. There are no guarantees that it will be shiny, but the chance is still there. Once you have caught it, you can work on collecting Mega Energy to evolve your Charizard into the Mega X or Y version.
And that is everything you need to know about Charizard in Pokemon GO. There is a lot happening during Season of Alola before it wraps up at the start of June. At Attack of the Fanboy, we cover all sorts of the events such as Spotlight Hours and Community Days as well as Raids and strategies for beating Team GO Rocket members. Whatever you’re looking for, you can find it in our Pokemon GO guides. As always, good luck out there Trainers!
