Gaines used to swim in college and now campaigns against trans women competing in women’s sports. She put up a photo on X of the three politicians at the rally. Her post said “We’re being destroyed from within.” AOC saw it and shot back at her. She wrote, “Maybe if you channeled all this anger into swimming faster you wouldn’t have come in fifth.” This was about how Gaines tied for fifth place with Lia Thomas at a big swimming competition in 2022.

But AOC did not seem interested in debating her. She posted another message on X that was short and simple. “And I would like to challenge this person to get a real job,” she wrote. That pretty much ended their back and forth online.
