An Applebee’s manager recently refused to serve margaritas to a pair of identical twins because he believed they were using the same identification cards. The incident was captured on video and posted on TikTok by user The Paradise Twins, as reported by BroBible. Even though the twins provided valid documentation, the Applebee’s manager insisted the license numbers were identical and would not accept it.
In the video, the manager tells the brothers, “I’m telling you these are both the same ID as far as the number goes.” One of the brothers responds by calling the situation cool. However, the manager remains firm in his refusal to serve them. He replies, “It’s not really cool because I can’t serve two of you with the same ID.” The situation escalates to the point where one of the brothers suggests involving law enforcement just to prove their legitimacy.
He says, “Brother, can we call the cops? I’ll leave your restaurant if that’s what you want.” The twins were visibly frustrated as they turned to other diners to ask if they were seeing the same thing. One brother asked, “Are you guys seeing this? Am I crazy?” Fortunately, other customers stepped in to help. They checked the identification cards and quickly realized the Applebee’s manager was mistaken.
Other diners had to check the IDs before the manager backed down
One customer pointed out, “They’re not the same driver’s license number.” After the other guests intervened, the manager returned to the table and said, “I’m sorry for the confusion.” The twins eventually got their drinks. Restaurant refusals have drawn attention online before, including a woman who said Starbucks refused to serve her while her son cried.
One person, a fraternal twin, said a bartender called their mother to confirm they were actually twins, not two people using the same information. Another person jokingly remarked, “You’re both twins, HOW DARE YALL LOOK THE SAME.” Restaurant visits have gone sideways on camera before, including a first date that went cold after a creator used a birthday coupon.
Fraternal twins come from two different eggs and two different sperm, while identical twins start as a single egg and sperm that split in the womb. However, identical twins are not always genetic copies. According to Healthline, a 2021 study suggests that about 15 percent of identical twin pairs show significant genetic variation.
The researchers analyzed 381 twin pairs and found a median of 14 mutations separating each pair. This variation often depends on when the fertilized egg separates during conception. If the egg separates on day three, there is more likely to be cellular diversity than if it separates on day nine.
BroBible said it contacted Applebee’s for comment.
