A 6-year-old called his grandmother to say he was hungry, and when she reached the South Carolina home she found him and his sibling covered in blood

Taylor Gosnell, a 35-year-old South Carolina mother, faces two counts of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her young children roughly 50 times inside their Spartanburg home. The incident, which left both children with severe injuries, prompted a swift response from local authorities.

As reported by the NY Post, deputies arrived at the family home to conduct a welfare check. Upon entering the residence, they discovered the 6-year-old and 3-year-old children alone and covered in blood. The scene inside the house was chaotic, as investigators reported finding blood throughout the property. Television sets and mirrors had been destroyed, resulting in glass and debris scattered across the floors. 

Authorities believe Gosnell utilized both a knife and a blunt object to carry out the attack. The discovery was initiated after the 6-year-old boy reportedly reached out to his grandmother to tell her he was hungry. Concerned by the call, the grandmother and Gosnell’s ex-boyfriend traveled to the home and contacted the police. 

Gosnell reportedly tried to flee the scene 

Shortly after deputies arrived, Gosnell returned to the residence. According to officials, she appeared to be in distress and was speaking quickly. She was placed into an ambulance for a mental health evaluation, but she attempted to flee the scene. This forced deputies to handcuff her to the stretcher to maintain control.

Graham McLellan with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Between the two children, we’re estimating that there were approximately 50 stab wounds,” WCBD News 2 reports. During a bond court appearance, the solicitor’s office provided further grim context, noting that some of the lacerations were deep enough to reach the bone. 

The 6-year-old child reportedly suffered the most significant trauma. The solicitor’s office added, “He’s currently facing the possibility of amputation of fingers and possibly an arm due to the severity of the injury sustained.”

Despite the extreme nature of these injuries, both children were transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment. They are currently reported to be in stable condition and are expected to recover. 

Gosnell was denied bond on Sunday. In addition to the initial two counts of attempted murder, deputies have since obtained further warrants against her for the possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities piece together the events that led to this situation.
